Just What Are Ovarian Cysts, What Are The Symptoms Of Ovarian Cysts, And Are There Beneficial Ovarian Cyst Cures?

What exactly are ovarian cysts?

Ovarian cysts will be fluid-filled, sac-like structures inside an ovary. The term cyst identifies a fluid-filled structure. Consequently, all ovarian cysts carry at least some liquid.

What can cause ovarian cysts?

Ovarian cysts form for numerous reasons. The most common type is a follicular cyst, that results from the growth of a follicle. A follicle is the common fluid-filled sac that contains an egg. Follicular cysts form whenever the follicle grows larger than usual within the menstrual cycle and does not open to release the egg. Usually, follicular cysts resolve on their own over the course of days to months. Cysts can contain blood (hemorrhagic or endometrioid cysts) from injury or leakage of tiny blood vessels into the egg sac. Once in a while, the tissues of the ovary develop abnormally to form some other body tissues like hair or teeth. Cysts with these abnormal tissues are known as dermoid cysts.

What symptoms are generated by ovarian cysts? What are the symptoms of ovarian cysts?

Almost all cysts will never be discovered and resolve without women ever realizing that they're there. When a cyst causes symptoms, pains within the abdomen or pelvis are probably the most frequent ovarian cyst symptoms. The pain may be caused from rupture of the cyst, rapid development and stretching, bleeding in to the cyst, or twisting of the cyst about its blood supply.

How are ovarian cysts diagnosed?

The majority of cysts are diagnosed by ultrasound, which is the best imaging way of finding ovarian cysts. Ultrasound is an imaging method that uses sound waves to create an image of structures within the body. Ultrasound imaging is pain-free and causes no harm.

Cysts may also be diagnosed with other imaging methods, which include CAT scan or MRI scan (magnetic resonance imaging).

Are ovarian cysts harmful?

Normally not. The majority of cysts are benign, cause no problems and eventually go away completely. From time to time, however, they cause problems and have to have treatment. Fortunately good ovarian cyst treatment is readily available.
